on the Leonardo Di Vinci 1978
"As a pianist I have been inspired
by many jazz greats.
To name a few; Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Chick
Corea and Thelonious Monk. As a composer, I have been influenced
by jazz, classical and pop composers, from Bach to the Beatles,
from John Coltrane to John Williams. Music has been
in my blood as far back as I remember."
Back
in 1977-78, Gary spent a year performing on the Italian cruiseliner
Leonardo Da Vinci, it was a 3 and 4 day run from Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida to Nassau and Freeport Bahamas. In November of 1977 he recorded
this album on board the cruise ship playing on an elegant German
Steinway grand piano using a 4 track reel to reel tape recorder.
The selection of songs are a combination of passengers popular favorites
and his own personal taste, thus giving the 'easy listener' pretty
melodies; the 'foot tapper', rhythm; the 'sophisticated observer',
harmonic structure and 'lovers', emotion.
